Children to Power

Recruiting should be much more direct, unbiased and honest.

Through the Eyes of Children

“Kinder an die Macht” sang Herbert Grönemyer in 1985, expressing a socially critical metaphor. Children do not judge people based on things like job titles or CVs. They are curious, open and discover the world with far less bias than adults. In the search for innovative solutions, the ignorant perspective of our children can be a real asset.

We asked children how they would hire new employees – their answers are refreshingly simple and honest:

  • Just ask: “Do you want to work here?”
  • Be friendly – “It’s great here!”
  • Explain what they should do – “You can play (work) and get something in return!”
  • If they stay, it's good - "Let's have fun and joy together!"

The Learnings

What can we learn from this? If children were in power, recruiting would probably be much more direct, unbiased, honest and, above all, less complicated.

Many companies are struggling with the transformation

Complicated recruitment processes deter potential talent, unnecessarily lengthen the selection process and cause high costs. Companies are disadvantaged in the competition for the best managers and specialists. Nevertheless, many companies find it difficult to transform their recruiting. The reasons for this are varied.:

  • the fear of making wrong decisions and being blamed for wrong attitudes
  • Focus on fulfilling formal requirements instead of focusing on potential and development opportunities
  • too many decision-making levels that slow down the selection process
  • rigid opinions about existing processes, complacency and a lack of insight into the possibility of change
  • an inconsistent implementation of digitalization
